Experience of the Psychodrama Participation of the Severely Disabled in Residential Facilities for the Disabled

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study is to study the meaning and nature of the experience of participation after conducting a psychodrama for people with severe disabilities. To this end, data from the psychodrama of 10 persons with severe disabilities living in facilities with disabilities were analyzed by the Giorgi technical phenomenological research method, resulting in three components and seven subcomponents. The three components were: ‘Discovering the painful past in me,’ ‘Tries to restore relations’ and ‘Fidelity to the present for a better future.’ Through this study, we found that psychodrama gave people with severe disabilities the courage to open themselves and that there was a true meeting between them as well as others. Based on this study, we were able to confirm the need to utilize psychodrama for the disabled living in the facility.
